Tabling of the Tree Policy
During the meeting, the Council tabled the Municipality of Chelsea's Tree Policy. The objective of this policy is to bring together citizens, users and the Municipality around the protection, the fair appreciation and the common management of trees. It offers support and tools to participate in the development and protection of the territory's tree heritage. It is also a tool that allows citizens to find the by-laws that apply to trees established by the Municipality. The conservation and protection of trees and forests being a common responsibility, the Tree Policy will allow citizens to better plan the good practices and actions to adopt in order to participate in the conservation and improvement of the forest cover on their private properties.
Adoption of the Violence Prevention Policy
Following the adoption of Bill 59 by the Government of Quebec, the Council adopted a Violence Prevention Policy. The Municipality wanted to adopt a policy that would ensure a healthy work environment for its employees, preventing cases of psychological and sexual harassment identified in the law, but also raising awareness of uncivil behaviour and actions. The policy helps prevent situations of incivility, intimidation, psychological and sexual harassment and domestic violence.
Mandate to negotiate and discuss the acquisition of lots in the Farmpoint area (Dery Quarry)
Council adopted a mandate for the discussion and negotiation of the acquisition of lots 4 221 580, 3 031 867 and 3 031 865. The purpose of this mandate is to allow the Director General and employees of the Municipality to initiate discussions with the owner of the lots, as well as interested community groups and a social trust. This item was added to the agenda a few hours prior to the meeting, due to last minute information updates, in order to ensure that these lots could be used for community, environmental protection and municipal purposes.
