Boating safety

July 8, 2016

Officers of our Nautical Unit would like to remind the public of some basic rules regarding regulations in force when you are on a waterway.  Despite all the publicity surrounding the flotation vest and the many drownings which occur every year, our officers again notice that this is the basic rule that is the most ignored and disregarded.  It is mandatory to have in your possession a flotation device that meets standard, is adapted to the individual and in good condition, and this for each person.
In addition, in recent years, our officers have noticed a new fashion trend where individuals descend, alone or in a group, the Gatineau River in inflatable boats.  It should be pointed out that these types of boats (tubes or other) are subject to the same regulation, that is to say that every person on board must, necessarily, have a flotation device in good condition and adapted, have a whistle and a heaving line.  You are subject to an infraction in the amount of $284.00 for each of these omissions.
