Community Trail : Unwanted Gatherings in the Area of chemin Church

June 30, 2020

Press release from the Police of the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais
and the Municipality of Chelsea

The Municipality of Chelsea, the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais Public Security Service and the citizens of the area have, for some time now, been working together to put in place certain preventive and coercive measures concerning a recurring problem of people gathering on waterfront land managed by the Municipality of Chelsea. This parcel of land which, over time, has become the access point for undesirables to reach the Gatineau River is adjacent to the community trail, popular with the residents.

Over time, illegal parking, increased crowds and numbers of people on site, excessive noise, alcohol and drug consumption, open fires, garbage, and altercations with residents, not to mention the dangerousness of the site, have become a problem and a concern for emergency services and citizens alike. This is why concrete actions had to be taken in order to preserve the security of all, as well as public peace.

Currently, our police officers conduct daily foot patrols of the trail, including the "prohibited zone". Anyone found in the "prohibited zone" could be issued a ticket for $350.00, plus fees. It should be pointed out that other municipal by-laws may also be applied and the fine is also $350.00, plus fees.

The Municipality of Chelsea, the police service and the citizens of the area thank you in advance for not venturing into this "prohibited zone" and for staying on the trail set up for this purpose.
