Following the upcoming implementation of the provincial legislation on tourist accommodation, Municipal Council tabled a first draft by-law on this subject at the January 10, 2023, Council meeting.
Tourist accommodation is regulated by provincial and municipal laws. The provincial law defines the definition of tourist accommodation and requires obtaining a registration number from the Corporation de l'industrie touristique du Québec.
The Municipality, for its part, has the power to decide where tourist accommodation is permitted on its territory through its zoning by-law. A public consultation will be held on February 15 on this aspect. All Chelsea residents will be asked to comment on the proposed main by-law regulations.
