Prohibition of outdoor fires

April 23, 2020

The Fire Department of the Municipality of Chelsea is announcing to citizens that outdoor fires, including open fires and fires in outdoor fireplaces (with spark arrestors), are all prohibited until further notice. Therefore, no permits will be issued for open air fires over one metre and under four metres and for pyrotechnics or firecrackers during this period. Previously issued permits are then suspended.

This prohibition is in effect due to the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais Uniform By-law which stipulates that outdoor fireplaces (with spark arrestors) are also prohibited when a prohibition of open fires is issued by provincial authorities. In fact, the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs issued a prohibition on April 23rd in order to preserve the operational capacity of the Municipal Fire Department and SOPFEU during the pandemic by reducing the risk of fire.
