Quebec provides a conditional grant for the completion of a 12 housing units for seniors

The Chelsea Housing Corporation recently received a conditional grant from the Quebec Housing Corporation (SHQ) for a project of 12 affordable housing units for seniors with slight loss of autonomy.

It was with Minister Stephanie Vallée, deputy of Gatineau, Minister of Justice and Minister responsible for the Outaouais region, that the announcement was made this morning at a press conference at the Municipal Library.

The grant of more than $ 826,000 should help the completion of this project in the Farm Point sector.

Highlights

• The completion of this project will require a total investment of more than $ 3.1 million.
• The Municipality of Chelsea has committed to support this project for an amount totaling more than $ 1 million.
• Tenants of 6 of the 12 units in the building could benefit from the SHQ's Rent Supplement program, which would allow them to pay only 25% of their income for housing. This additional planned assistance of more than $ 103,000, spread over five years, would be assumed 90% by the SHQ and 10% by the Municipality of Chelsea.
• This project is also eligible for a $ 26,100 grant from Transition énergétique Québec to ensure that the building meets the Novoclimat certification standards.
• Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) is providing $ 10,000 for this project.
