REMINDER - General Boil Water Advisory in effect

October 21, 2022

The Municipality of Chelsea would like to remind the population that a boil water advisory is still in effect for the entire water system.  The boil water advisory was issued on Tuesday, October 18, due to the presence of E.coli bacteria in one of the samples taken on the system.

All Chelsea residents served by the municipal water system are required to boil their water for at least one minute before consumption until the advisory is lifted.

The Municipality would like to clarify that the E.coli bacteria infiltration has nothing to do with the wastewater treatment plant. Staff is continuing to investigate the source of the bacteria in the water system. In addition, the Public Works Department is continuing the disinfection protocol of the system until a compliant result is obtained.

As soon as the situation is restored, an email will be sent, in addition to the diffusion of messages on the various platforms of the Municipality to warn the citizens.

Use of water

Water from the water system should not be drunk or used for juice preparation, infant formula, cooking, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, or brushing teeth unless it has been boiled.

Adults and teenagers can shower with municipal water if they do not swallow it. For younger children, it is preferable to wash them with a washcloth since they are susceptible to swallowing water. Hand washing is also possible with municipal water.
