April 30, 2018

The Municipality of Chelsea is proud to announce that it won, on last Friday evening, the prize, in the MRC et municipalités category, at the contest Les Vertuoses for its Sustainable Development Action Plan (SDAP). This contest wanted to recognize the efforts of sustainable development in the Outaouais region. Congratulations to the municipal staff of the Planning and Sustainable Development Department for their hard work being paid off. A big thank you to Mayor Caryl Green, municipal council and CREDDO for their commitment. Also, thank you to every individual and organism who got involved. Finally, the Municipality would like to thank Enviro Éduc-Action and the jury members for this acknowledgement and wonderful gala. Thanks to this support, the Municipality can optimistically move forward with its plan.

The SDAP

Chelsea is the first municipality in the Outaouais region to create a sustainable development action plan. Thanks to this one, the Municipality of Chelsea can say that it works to preserve its community for the well-being of its residents. The objective is to model a Chelsea faithful to its history and natural landscapes. To do so, the Plan foresees multiple actions to balance the three key pillars of sustainable development: environment, social aspect and economy. The balance between the three should be able to always act acceptably on a human scale.

After consulting the population on an online platform called Cocoriko, these objectives brought out specific actions to reduce greenhouse gas emission, better manage waste and arrange the territory in a way that protects the wildlife. The Plan also envisages promoting social and intergenerational sharing of resources, local culture development and adoption of healthy living habits. On an economic point of view, the objective is to reduce our residential ecological footprint by also encouraging the local and collaborative economy.

With an acknowledgment like the one Les Vertuoses and the residents gave us, the Municipality is confident in its capacity to implement this plan. Thanks to the municipal staff, local players involved, CREDDO, Cocoriko's team and all the participants of the public consultation for their effort in this plan's elaboration. We are sure it will be efficicient in the improvement of both present and future residents of Chelsea's well-being.
