Tree cutting provisions under revision

October 2, 2014

The Municipality of Chelsea would like to advise you that the tree cutting provisions, which are part of the Planning by-laws, are currently under revision in order to better meet resident's expectations.

It is important to note that the main objective of these provisions is to protect the environment, to keep the forest canopy, and the Municipality's rural character.

The obligation to obtain a permit helps to supervise tree cutting while validating the condition of the tree as well as the diverse soil conditions of the land (E.g. Presence of a landslide zone). The permit fees cover the administrative expenses related to the process of issuing such a permit.

The Municipality is currently re-evaluating the needs of these procedures and residents will have the opportunity to express their opinion at a public consultation that will be held through this by-law modification process.

We will inform the residents of the date of the public consultation on the Municipality's website as soon as the details are available.
