Work on the wastewater treatment system of Farm Point

November 18, 2013

The Municipality of Chelsea wishes to clarify some facts regarding the work that has been done on the wastewater treatment system of Farm Point.

First of all, no wastewater was ever discharged into the Gatineau River. Rest assured that the Municipality took all the necessary measures to protect the river. In fact, the wastewaters were pumped daily and transported to an appropriate treatment centre.
We can also confirm that no contaminated water was poured into the environment since the waterproofing system was verified regularly and was conform. Moreover, the pump present on the site was used during the work only to lower the level of the water table around the empty basins, thus relieving the pressure and avoiding cracking of the concrete. The water pumped was therefore clear and was channelled to the swamp near the treatment system.

The work will be completed no later than November 14. The Municipality would like to reassure you that everything was done to protect both the residents and the environment, while making sure to keep the system operational.
