The Municipality of Chelsea joins many other Canadian municipalities in lowering its flags to half-mast until June 10 in memory of the 215 Indigenous children from the Kamloops residential school whose remains were discovered on May 28. The flags will be flown at half-mast for one hour for each child.
In honour of these Indigenous children, 215 children's shoes will be placed along the Voie Verte Chelsea. This citizen initiative will take place as of Friday on a section of the trail north of Chemin Ramsay for a period of 7 days. A team of volunteers will then retrieve them.
The Municipality would like to thank all the volunteers involved in this initiative and would like to reiterate its support and solidarity towards the families of the victims and all those affected by this event. A resolution to this effect will be adopted at tonight's council meeting.
