Access to the Gatineau River: A Pilot Project in Chelsea Starting in 2026

April 9, 2026

Access to the Gatineau River has generated strong interest within the community. To better manage river use and address this interest in a safe, inclusive, and sustainable manner, Municipal Council approved, in June 2025, a development plan for three sites along the river.

Implementation of this plan will begin with a pilot project in the summer of 2026 in the Farm Point area. This project includes:

  • The installation of a universally accessible municipal dock and the development of a designated open-water swimming corridor in front of the service chalet.
  • The official designation of a non-motorized boat launch area in front of the community centre.

This pilot project will make it possible to test the proposed facilities, assess their use, and explore opportunities for improvement before the rollout of the other sites in the coming years.

Visit the project’s webpage to learn more about the objectives of the pilot project, the planned amenities, and the next steps.
