This year, Now Mow May becomes the Défi des Collines. The Municipality of Chelsea is joining forces with its colleagues in the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais to have a greater environmental impact and help pollinators.
The public works team will allow grass and dandelions to grow throughout the month of May on all municipal properties identified for this purpose.
In addition, Chelsea residents are strongly encouraged to delay mowing and leave the grass and dandelions growing throughout the month of May. This initiative is intended to protect and support pollinating insects and encourage biodiversity.
By delaying the first mowing for a few weeks, these insects have time to regain their strength to perform their important role of pollination. As they pollinate from flower to flower, they spread pollen that allows plants to reproduce and promotes food production.
