On Wednesday, September 30, the Municipality of Chelsea invites residents to gather at Town Hall for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Two activities are planned.
9:30 to 10 a.m.: Flag Raising
The Survivor’s Flag will be raised in front of Town Hall with the mayor in attendance.
10 to 11 a.m.: Conversation with an Elder from Kitigan Zibi
Florence Cote, an elder from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, will lead a conversation on the realities lived by Indigenous people, past and present. It will be a time for listening, reflection and dialogue, open to all residents.
Why September 30
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, Survivors, their families and communities, and to recognize the lasting impacts of the residential school system.
Wear Orange
September 30 is also Orange Shirt Day. Wearing orange is a way of affirming that every child matters. We invite you to wear orange, whether or not you attend the activities.
The Municipality of Chelsea is located on the unceded traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinabeg Nation.
