April Council Meeting Highlights

April 12, 2023

Grant to Chelsea Housing Corporation

Council adopted a resolution granting a $3,930,000 subsidy to the Chelsea Housing Corporation for its 12-unit project for independent seniors. This contribution comes from an agreement between the Municipality, the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l'habitation and the Société d'Habitation du Québec. The Municipality already grants several grants to the Corporation, including a contribution of $30,000 per year until 2051 and an annual contribution equivalent to the municipal taxes that will be effective from the first year of taxation for a period of 35 years.

Mandate to the UMQ

Council has mandated the Union des Municipalités du Québec (UMQ) to purchase de-icing salt for the next four years. The grouped purchase of road salt will allow the Municipality to save on the costs related to de-icing roads during the winter period.

Creation of a pilot project for street food trucks in Chelsea

The by-law was adopted for a pilot project authorizing and regulating street food trucks within the urbanization perimeter where food service is permitted. The pilot project will begin in the summer of 2023. The Municipality will then re-evaluate whether this project can be maintained on a permanent basis for the future.

Marking Contract Awarded

With the good weather coming in, Council awarded the contract for this summer's road marking work. The work includes the marking of stop lines, center street lines and various pictograms. With the summer season fast approaching, the Municipality's trucks will soon be criss-crossing the streets to do the maintenance.

Chelsea Public Market is back

Council approved the request to hold the temporary public market at the Meredith Centre. The market will be back from June 1 to October 12 for the enjoyment of residents.

Fire Safety Committee

Council gave notice of motion to update the by-law of the Fire Safety Advisory Committee. The by-law amendment will be adopted at a future meeting.
