The Chelsea Library Shares Its Expertise with an International Delegation

On August 10, 2026, the Chelsea Library was pleased to welcome an international delegation of children’s book professionals as part of the 40th IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) World Congress, which was held this year in Ottawa—the first time the event has taken place in Canada.
Founded on the belief that books foster mutual understanding and bring people together, IBBY is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to improving access to books and literacy for children around the world.
On this occasion, Chelsea’s Chief Librarian, Amélie Gariépy, presented the many initiatives and activities offered to young people in our community, like the TD Summer Reading Club, to foster a love of reading and develop literacy.
This visit is a wonderful recognition of the work accomplished by the library team to offer quality programs to Chelsea families and to promote reading among young people.
The event also highlighted the significant contribution of the Leacross Foundation, which has supported the Chelsea Library since 2009. Thanks to its financial support of over $300,000 over the years, the library has been able to expand its children’s collection and offer activities such as Authors’ Weeks and themed backpacks focused on fine motor skills. Ms. Roslyn Bern, president of the Leacross Foundation, was present during the visit.
The Municipality of Chelsea is proud to see its library contribute to international exchanges on children’s literature and showcase its expertise to this delegation from around the world.
