The Cascades Train Station will be moved to the Mill sector

March 9, 2021

The old train station, which is more than 100 years old, will officially be moved to the Mill area soon. An important part of the trail's history, this station is the last one that can still be seen.  Its current location on Chemin Cross Loop was sold to a third party who requested that the station be moved or it would have been demolished.

The Municipality and The Friends of Voie Verte Chelsea have worked together to find a solution to keep this heritage element. After much research and analysis, it was decided that it would be moved to the Mill sector.

The choice of location is based on two main aspects:

  • The favorable location
  • The historical reminder

The intersection of Chemin Mill with the Voie Verte Chelsea trail is a favorable location for the train station due to the width of the lot and the fact that a natural forest cover allows for mitigation measures to avoid disturbing nearby homes. The area was formerly home to a train station on the railway line. This historical reminder of the railway will bring together enthusiasts of the railway history of Chelsea during their passage on the trail.

Thanks to all those involved

Finally, thanks to The Friends of Voie Verte Chelsea for organizing a fundraiser to cover transportation costs related to the relocation of the Cascades Train Station. A big thank you, also, to all the residents who helped save this railway vestige.
