Municipal Council in favour of signing a promise to purchase for the Dery Quarry lands

September 21, 2022

The Municipality of Chelsea announced today that council voted in favour of the mandate to sign a promise to purchase Dery Quarry lots 4 221 580, 3 031 867, and 3 031 865 at an extraordinary meeting on September 20, 2022. The acquisition will help meet Chelsea’s future municipal, community, and infrastructure needs.

Reasons for the acquisition

The 86 acres piece of land will allow the Municipality to improve sports and recreation infrastructure in collaboration with community organizations, create affordable social housing, and protect wetlands, mature forests and of high ecological value.

“The best way to ensure basic services for our population is through land acquisition.  The municipality is giving itself the opportunity to meet municipal needs, create affordable social housing, proximity services and conserve areas with high ecological value. The future vision of the site will be done in collaboration with the population and our community groups to optimize the use of the site for the needs of our municipality.” said Mayor Pierre Guénard.

The promise to purchase is conditional on the approval of a loan by-law by Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation, a report on the market value of the lots, a Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment, and a Phase 2 environmental study and a geotechnical study may also be conducted, if necessary.
