As a municipality, we are deeply affected by the situation affecting families in our territory.
We are very concerned that the implementation of Bill 21 has resulted in the reassignment of a teacher at Chelsea Elementary School.
As a municipality, we strive to create an inclusive community, offering equal opportunity to all, regardless of their ethnicity or religion.
We would like to mention that education is outside of our jurisdiction, however, we support the WQSB in its opposition to Bill 21 which is discriminatory and understand that as a public organization law enforcement is mandatory.
We believe that local government has an important role to play in promoting the diversity, equity and inclusion that are necessary to create a sustainable and healthy community.
In this regard, Chelsea Municipal Council is committed to adopting a resolution in the near future to promote inclusion and diversity by signing the UNESCO Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities.
