Pilot project for laying hens

August 21, 2020

At its regular meeting on August 4, Chelsea’s Municipal Council presented and filed Draft Bylaw no. 1160-20 on a pilot project that would allow residents to keep laying hens in the Municipality of Chelsea.

Due to increasing interest in this activity, Council has decided to launch a pilot project that would bring high-quality eggs—and the hens that lay them—to residential areas. To guarantee the project’s success, see to the safety and well-being of the hens, and ensure the tranquillity of its residential neighbourhoods, the Municipality of Chelsea has drawn up a draft bylaw that sets out the standards for keeping laying hens.

The Municipality of Chelsea would like to hear from residents and invites you to read the draft bylaw and email us your comments and suggestions: permis@chelsea.ca.
