Starting August 3, 2026, the Municipality of Chelsea will be flushing the water system in the village centre over a three-week period. Water will remain safe to drink throughout this annual maintenance operation.
Work will be carried out:
Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
What do these operations involve?
Flushing the water distribution network removes minerals that are naturally present in the water and settle on the inside walls of the pipes. To do this, the water flow rate is increased, and the disturbed water is discharged through fire hydrants. The operations are carried out using predetermined flushing routes, which allows for more thorough cleaning.
As a result, if your home or business is served by the water distribution network, you may notice a drop in water pressure, which may or may not be accompanied by a reddish tint (rust). This reddish discoloration can cause stains on fabrics. It is therefore recommended that you avoid doing laundry or washing dishes between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
What to do if the water is rust-colored?
If the water is discoloured, we recommend turning on the cold-water faucets and letting the water run until it becomes clear. This is a temporary situation and poses no health risk.
This cleaning is necessary to maintain the water system in good condition. The Municipality apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks residents for their valuable cooperation.
