The Municipality of Chelsea installed a new public dock at Farm Point Park. This new facility marks the first step of a pilot project aimed at improving residents’ access to the Gatineau River, while ensuring appropriate use and gradually responding to the community’s needs.
Every day, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., residents can enjoy this welcoming space to relax by the water, using the benches provided. The dock is also accessible to people with reduced mobility.
A pilot project to discover
This dock is part of a phased approach to improving public access to the river. The next step will be to set up an open-water swimming corridor nearby. This space will be intended for independent, experienced swimmers who are able to navigate a natural environment without supervision. The opening date for the corridor will be announced shortly.
The Municipality invites those interested in learning more to subscribe to the “Recreation and Parks” category on the citizen portal, PiVOT, to stay informed.
Rules to ensure safety
To ensure all users can enjoy a safe and enjoyable experience, the Municipality has worked with several partners to establish clear usage guidelines.
The dock is intended solely for individuals who wish to use it for relaxing or to access the open-water swimming corridor. It is not designed to serve anglers or boaters. To preserve its integrity, ensure its durability, and maintain everyone’s safety, those with watercrafts are asked to use the designated area across from the Farm Point Community Centre. Signage posted on the dock informs users of the rules.
