Council adopts draft dock by-law

August 10, 2021

The Municipal Council adopted on Tuesday a revised version of the draft by-law* concerning docks and conditions of occupancy of the municipal right-of-way along the Gatineau River.

This by-law aims to resolve the issue of private docks located on municipal land. It is a modified version of the original draft by-law, published in August 2020, following comments submitted by Chelsea residents between August 2020 and July 2021.

The proposed regulations include provisions for three typical cases:

  1. Private lot contiguous to the municipal trail Voie Verte Chelsea
  2. Private lot contiguous to chemin de la rivière
  3. Other (docks located on municipal land that do not fit into typical case 1 or 2)

Adoption of the final version of the by-law is to be included in the agenda of the September 7, 2021 regular Council meeting. If officially adopted, it will take effect on January 1, 2022.

The adoption of a draft by-law does not mean that the by-law is officially adopted. The draft by-law serves to announce to the public that the by-law will be placed on the agenda for adoption at a subsequent Council meeting.
