The Journey Of Nishiyuu in Chelsea - Traffic delays expected on Sunday and Monday

March 22, 2013

Residents of Chelsea should expect traffic delays on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning since approximately 300 walkers from the Nishiyuu movement will arrive in the Municipality. The Chemin de la Rivière, the railroad and the 105 will be affected for a few hours.

The walkers will leave Wakefield Sunday morning around 10: 00 a.m., and will walk along Chemin de la Rivière to Route 105. They will continue on the 105 and end their journey at the Meredith Centre in the afternoon. Some of them may use the railway as a path. They will spend the night at the Meredith Centre and resume their journey on Monday morning to reach Parliament Hill the same day. To do so, they will leave the Meredith Centre at 7: 00 a.m. on Monday morning and walk on Route 105 towards Ottawa. The MRC Police will ensure the safety surrounding this walk, but we ask for your cooperation so that everything runs smoothly.

A group of Chelsea residents is currently planning a welcoming breakfast for Monday morning. If you are interested in getting involved in this activity, please contact Mr. Bob Vandenberg at 819 827-6515 or Mr. Chris Marriott at 819 827-3380.

This adventure began when seven young First Nations walkers left the James Bay last January 16 to send a message of unity and friendship to the rest of Canada. They will walk 1 300 kilometers on traditional routes in order to reach Parliament Hill as their final stop on Monday morning. Nearly two hundred walkers joined them since they left. People interested in learning more about this movement or to support them, visit www.nishiyuujourney.ca.
