In 2025, Chelsea celebrated its 150th anniversary with initiatives that go far beyond festivities. Three promising projects have been completed or initiated to leave a lasting legacy for the community. These “legacy projects” embody our history, creativity, and collective identity.
1. Cascades Station gets a New Life
A symbol of Chelsea's railway past, Cascades Station has been preserved and relocated to the intersection of the Voie Verte Chelsea and Chemin Mill. This move, completed in November 2025, marks a major step toward the creation of a heritage and community hub. This space will contribute to Chelsea's cultural and community vitality and tell our story while promoting active transportation and social interaction.
Key milestones
- 2021-2023: Studies and analysis of potential sites, including Chemin Mill.
- 2024: Development of the design concept and project relaunch thanks to funding opportunities linked to Chelsea’s 150th anniversary.
- Spring 2025: Public consultation on the Cocoriko platform to gather citizens' views.
- Fall 2025: Call for tenders for the relocation of the station, contract award, and completion of the move.

Upcoming steps include landscaping, restoring the building, installing historical and cultural interpretation, highlighting railway traces, and creating a welcoming stop along the Voie Verte Chelsea

2. A Collective Artwork to Celebrate Our Creativity
To conclude the celebrations, embossed aluminum workshops were offered to seniors at the Petit Bois residence, students at Chelsea Elementary School, and families attending the Christmas market at La Fab sur Mill. Guided by local artist Yvan-Xavier Regoût, participants engraved Chelsea symbols on small aluminum sheets. These individual creations inspired the artist to design a larger-scale collective artwork that will soon be unveiled. It illustrates the richness and diversity of our community.
3. An Official Demonym to Affirm Our Identity
Because a name brings people together, Chelsea has adopted an official demonym: Chelsien. This choice, resulting from a public consultation, strengthens our sense of belonging and anchors our identity over time.
Transforming the last two letters of Chelsea (ea) into (i) makes pronunciation easier while maintaining a clear link to the place name. The choice also stood out for its linguistic fluidity in both official languages, its brevity, and its intuitive pronunciation.
