Gatineau Park's Parkways to Close Overnight (from the NCC)

April 16, 2019

The National Capital Commission (NCC) would like to inform you about a new initiative for Gatineau Park's Parkways. A pilot project will be implemented, whereby the parkways (Gatineau, Champlain and Fortune Lake) will be closed to motorists overnight, beginning when the parkways reopen for the 2019 season.

The parkways will close to motorists approximately 30 minutes after sunset and reopen beginning at 8 am the following morning. This is part of a multi-pronged approach to manage activities and traffic on the Gatineau Park parkways. Following a number of public consultations and meetings with user groups and event organizers, the National Capital Commission (NCC) has developed an action plan that aims to increase safety, as well as reduce user conflicts on the parkway network.

To communicate this closure to visitors, signage regarding this project will be installed throughout the Park. Pedestrians and cyclists will still have access; however, hiking and cycling at night are not recommended. Further details and a schedule of approximate closure times are available on the NCC website.

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact the NCC at 613-239-5000 or info@ncc-ccn.ca.
