Hurricane Sandy in the Province of Quebec: Are you ready?

October 30, 2012

Due to the passage of Hurricane Sandy on our territory, Environment Canada expects strong winds and rain for the next few days. The Municipality of Chelsea wants to remind its residents on some guidelines and tips to help manage this event as well as possible. The Municipality would also like to reassure the residents; no imminent danger has been reported but it is always better to be prepared!

The Municipality wishes to inform the residents that various teams have been deployed in different locations to monitor the roads and facilities. The Emergency Preparedness Committee is always ready for any situations and will put in place the necessary measures to face all types of situations. Therefore, the Municipality requests the cooperation of citizens to report any anomaly (fallen trees, cut wires, flooding, etc.) at 819 827-9911. If you experience a power outage, directly notify Hydro-Québec at 1 800 790-2424. In case of an emergency dial 9-1-1.

Every citizen must be ready to face any situation that may arise, not only in the context of the passage of Hurricane Sandy but at all times. Is your 72 hours emergency kit ready? Do you know who will take care of your pet if you are evacuated? Do you have any contacts that could help you? That is the importance of preparing an emergency plan for your home. You can visit the municipal Website at the following address http://www.chelsea.ca/?q=node/132&lg=en for tools that can help you develop your plan. For example, you must make sure you include enough water, food, flashlight and your medication for 72 hours. Limiting your traveling during strong winds is also recommended. The Municipality encourages all residents to prepare well for the passage of Sandy in our region.
