July Council Meeting Highlights

July 8, 2022

Modification of the 2022 Regular Session Schedule and Adoption of the 2023 Regular Session Schedule

At the meeting, Council modified its regular session calendar so that the August 9 session will be held at the Farm Point Community Center and the October 4 session will be held at the Hollow Glen Community Center. Council thereby adopted the 2023 Regular Session Calendar.

Adoption of the Municipality of Chelsea's environmental targets

During the meeting, Council adopted the Municipality's environmental targets. In this document, the Municipality of Chelsea commits to fighting climate change by setting objectives and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the percentage of protected territory. In addition, through the development and adoption of a Local Plan for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in 2023, the Municipality of Chelsea commits to include in its Master Plan a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45% below 2019 levels at the institutional level (representing 95 tonnes of CO2eq) and by 10% at the collective level (representing 2,400 tonnes of CO2eq) by 2030, as well as to achieve collective carbon neutrality by 2050. Finally, by developing and adopting a natural environment conservation plan in 2023, it commits to dedicate in perpetuity at least 30% of its territory, excluding Gatineau Park, to the conservation and protection of natural environments and the promotion of biodiversity protection by 2030.

Requests to MTQ for traffic studies

The Municipal Council adopted a request to the Ministère des Transports du Québec to re-evaluate the traffic and safety of the section of Route 105 from chemin d'Old Chelsea to the southern limit of the Municipality. The Municipality is also requesting that the MTQ reconsider the request initially made in 2016, which received an unfavourable response, to reduce the speed limit from 70 km/h to 50 km/h on this portion of the road.

Council has also requested that the Ministère des Transports du Québec re-evaluate the traffic flow and safety of chemin d'Old Chelsea as a whole, taking into account the improvement of crossings, the improvement of intersections, the reduction of speed in front of Chelsea Elementary School and the possibility of widening a section.
