Meredith Centre Arena Temporary Closure

August 19, 2014

The Meredith Centre arena has been closed in short notice due to an expedited construction schedule. This construction schedule was advanced as a result of the most recent air quality report. This report raised concerns about the quality of the air in the arena (not the community center) and in the interest of public health and safety the municipality decided to close the arena.

Regular testing for air quality has been performed at the Meredith Centre since the unfortunate and unforeseen collapse of the exterior arena wall over 16months ago. Since the collapse of the wall there has been no reason for concern for public safety and wellbeing.

The ventilation systems for the arena and the community centre are independent systems.

The repair work for the arena was originally scheduled so that management could properly work with its clientele to limit the disruption to their ice/hockey schedules during a brief period of closure. The recent reports leading to the sudden closure of the arena has caused a great level of frustration to the clientele. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience this has created for the center's guests but this situation was beyond our control.

We hope that we can count on the continued support from the community once the arena reopens and we can put this past 16 months behind us. We are working diligently with the Foundation in order to confirm the timelines of the construction so that we can keep everyone informed as to when the arena will reopen.

The Meredith Centre management will be contacting clients for rescheduling ice times, refunds or credits.

Again we apologize for this inconvenience and we appreciate your understanding.
