CHELSEA, Monday, October 30th, 2017 - The Municipality of Chelsea, like many municipalities in the Outaouais region, has been severely affected by the recent storm. Four sectors are particularly affected. These sectors are Hollow Glen, chemin de la Rivière, chemin du Lac-Meech, and chemins Fleury and Childs. In addition, about fifteen reported power outages have still not been repaired.

Hollow Glen: Chemin de la Montagne was washed out by the torrential rains of last night and was impassable, until late this afternoon. It is now opened in alternating directions.  People using this road towards the Pontiac and/or Gatineau are asked to use the detour via the Boulevard des Allumettières and Highway 148. A landslide also occurred in this area, and basements are flooded.  Chemin Hollow Glen is also closed from chemin de la Montagne to chemin Cadillac, and chemin Kelly, from chemin de la Montagne to chemin de la Paix.

Chemin de la Rivière: Chemin de la Rivière is closed at the northern border of Chelsea, at the limits with La Pêche, due to a landslide following the torrential rains. People are advised to make a detour via chemin Carman or chemin St-Clément. Many houses in this area also have flooded basements. A second landslide has also occurred on chemin de la Rivière, in the area of chemins Pine and des Pommiers, which, for the moment, does not affect traffic.

Chemin du Lac-Meech: Chemin du Lac-Meech was flooded and was impassable until late this afternoon.  A precautionary boil-water advisory is in effect for residents in the area.

Chemins Fleury and Childs: Chemins Fleury and Childs are flooded, preventing residents of five homes from accessing or leaving their homes.  Repairs are scheduled to start tomorrow and will be completed in two days.

The Municipality wishes to confirm that the wastewater treatment and drinking water systems in the Centre-Village are fully functional.

The Municipality is currently working with the Public Security Service of the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais, the Québec Ministry of Public Security, Minister Stéphanie Vallée, Hydro-Québec and the neighbouring municipalities.

Residents are invited to visit the Municipality's website (www.chelsea.ca) in the coming hours for an update on the situation, or call 819-827-9911 in the case of an emergency.
