Warning from the MRC police service about a possible fraud scheme

January 10, 2019

The MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais Public Security Department would like to warn the public about a possible fraud scheme involving the verification of your heating system that occurred yesterday, January 9, on Route 105 in Chelsea. Here is how it all went.

A resident receives a phone call from a number displaying "unknown", a man is on the phone and mentions offering a service of "verification" of the proper functioning of the heating system. An appointment is then scheduled with the resident, but the presumed "seller" cannot say exactly who will be there for the verification.  During the visit, a man arrives on site with a van without identification. Seeing the whole thing, the client asks questions to the alleged technician, but he is unable to answer and even refuses to identify himself. Under the pretext of seeking his identifications from his vehicle, the man boarded his vehicle and quickly left the scene.

During the conversation with the client it was mentioned that he (the technician) had other appointments on Route 105. He is a white male with a tanned skin speaking French and measuring about 5 feet 5 inches. He wore dark-coloured clothing and a black toque and drove a small black van.

Anyone who has been in contact with or has information about this person can contact the police directly at 819-459-9911 or transmit non-emergency information using the "Hill Info" line at 1-844-477-2529.
