A Word from the Mayor

April 9, 2020

The Premier of Quebec officially declared the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny as essential services! In these difficult times, it is indeed important to take time to enjoy ourselves, to have fun and give our minds a break. This is one of the tips from the Ordre des psychologues du Québec to better manage this crisis. If you haven't visited their website yet, I invite you to do so in order to find a wide range of psychological resources and advice.

The Quebec government unveiled its forecasts for the COVID-19 pandemic on Tuesday. Although they may seem alarming, the numbers show even more how important it is to respect the current measures and stay home in order to save as many lives as possible. Despite the holiday weekend ahead, the pandemic is not taking a break, and the temptation to travel within regions will grow stronger with the arrival of spring. It is important to remain disciplined. As Mr. Legault said Wednesday: we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is not the time to reduce our efforts.

This week, Chelsea Council held our first public meeting by videoconference. We unanimously adopted the cancellation of interest and penalties on unpaid taxes from March 13 until July 1. We hope that this measure will help residents who are experiencing financial difficulties during this time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of Council and residents for their presence and for their support.

For the long weekend ahead, reach out by phone to your family and friends to check on them. If you're looking for something to take your mind off things, the Recreation Department has prepared a list of activities for you to do individually or with your family, in the comfort of your own home. You can also take advantage of this opportunity to support our local businesses! Our "I Support Chelsea Businesses" campaign was officially launched this week and offers you a web page where all the businesses that continue to offer their services are listed. I hope you will join us in showing your support.

In closing, I would like to wish you a Happy Easter and Passover.
