The Municipality of Chelsea's Public Works and Infrastructures Department wishes to inform the public that the preventive boil water advisory for residents served by the aqueduct system on the west side of Highway 5 (between Highway 5 and Chemin Scott) has been lifted. You may now use water from the network as normal.
Residents connected to the aqueduct network will have noticed that, since last year, the frequency of problems with water pressure or reserves at the plant has been particularly high. The Municipality has been closely monitoring the situation from the outset and has carried out a number of analyses and tests to identify the problems.
Today, the Public Works and Infrastructures Department can identify three main causes.
- Major leaks were detected at a property owner's premises. These were causing significant water wastage, as well as significantly reducing our water reserves.
- Turbidity in the river water is partially clogging the plant's filters, reducing the filling speed of the drinking water tanks.
- Excessive water consumption by users for watering the grounds, filling a spa or swimming pool, and failure to comply with the relevant regulations.
- Mechanical watering is permitted between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays if you have an even-numbered address, and on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays if you have an odd-numbered address. On Mondays, mechanical watering is prohibited for everyone.
Now that the causes have been identified, we're working hard to rectify the situation. Discussions surrounding the expansion of the drinking water plant are also currently underway within the Municipal Council.
