The Municipality, through its Fonds vert program, offers an incentive for the purchase of rainwater barrels.
This pilot project ends on December 31, 2023, or until the budget is exhausted.
Benefits
Since most of the drinking water is not used for consumption and rainwater is free, it can be used for many purposes such as watering the gardens, the yards or washing cars. Here is some other examples:
- Reduces the waste of drinking water
- Reduces water runoff, which can flood properties and carry contaminants into watercourses
- Allows you to avoid watering restrictions
- Helps renew aquifers by reducing pressure on them
- Reduces the risk of water infiltration near house foundations
- Reduces the risk of overloading the sewer system and the quantity of water treated by the plant.
To be eligible to the program:
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of Chelsea, with proof of residency
- One grant is given per family
- Rainwater barrels must be purchased between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023, with proof of purchase.
- New and second hand barrels are eligible to the program, with proof of purchase (photos of the sale announcement and payment transaction)
Grants are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis until available funds are exhausted, until December 31, 2023.
The incentive for the purchase of rainwater barrels program offers a full reimbursement of the bill (excluding taxes) up to a maximum of $130.
