Remarkable Trees Mission

In order to better understand the natural heritage of our territory, the Municipality is asking for your help! Become a citizen scientist by observing and identifying the remarkable trees around you.

The inventoried trees will then be mapped in order to highlight them and to share with the citizens the hidden treasures of our territory. This mission is being carried out within the framework of the development of a Tree Policy that will aim to raise awareness of the benefits of trees and the role they play. It will focus on concrete actions that can be carried out by the community and the municipality in a sustainable development approach.

The data collection will end on June 30, 2021.

A remarkable tree meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • Great maturity
  • Exceptional size
  • Scarcity
  • It grew in a historic place
  • It was planted during a ceremony of a cultural event
  • It contributes to the structural integrity of the landscape

Other natural or social criteria can make a tree remarkable. Thus, we invite you to send the following information to environnement@chelsea.ca:

  • Photos (whole tree, trunk, buds, leaves, etc.),
  • Location (GPS coordinates or address),
  • Specie of the tree (if known),
  • Criteria that the tree meets to be considered remarkable or an explanation,
  • If you own the land where the tree is located, please let us know if you would like to share the information collected.

Please note that this project is on a voluntary basis. The inventory and resulting map of remarkable trees will be done with the approval of the concerned owners, if applicable.
